the 'lympics!
It's that time again--the time when ice and snow permeate the brains of millions of people around the world, no matter what the temperature or the local weather. The time when figure skaters get as much air and air time as snow boarders and almost? as much respect. The time when "nations join together in the name of good sportsmanship" or something corny like that.
It's time for the Olympics!!!
I have to admit, though, despite all its inevitable corniness, I'm an Olympics fan. Maybe it's because the Olympics remind me of when I had the free time to watch all the finals and world championships so I actually knew the people who were competing. Maybe it's because I'm a sap for those heart-wrenching stories they broadcast right before an athlete competes about their tragic injury or obstacle-filled journey to the top. (Uh...nah.) Really, I just like to watch all the hot guys who have suddenly discovered their passion for alpine skiing, bobsledding, speed skating, and curling. There are a few hot figure skaters this year too...Evan whatshisname...
So all that is nice and it's also nice to see what people can achieve when they actually take something seriously enough to work out a million times a day and practice until they are exhausted. I can live vicariously through them, right? Then I don't have to go to the gym...
Oh, wait, vicarious workouts don't protect against heart disease? What?
Ok ok, I really do like the Olympics for more than just the hot guys and the stolen adrenaline rushes. I'm going to keep watching.
